Fourth General Meeting of the Vege Council Japan

Fourth General Meeting of the Vege Council Japan

The Fourth General Meeting of the Vege Council was held on November 17th 2020 at the House of Representatives Second Building.

At the meeting, Tokyo Vegan organizers handed everyone a copy of a report we had made earlier in the year (for the leader of the Vege Council, Jin Matsubara MP) on global plant-based policies. The report includes information on the expanding plant-based food market and the reasons driving the change.

During the meeting discussions, we also commented on the fact that although a plant-based food label is now commonly understood/used to mean “no animal ingredients” in most countries, the term is being used very loosely in Japan, causing confusion amongst consumers.

After the meeting, we followed up with a blog about usage and perception of the term plant-based, and also sent lawmakers a PDF on the issue.
